OVER THE STATE
--------
Says the Mobile Register: A strange story is reported from Paulding, Mississippi, and the Meridian News gives it as follows: Jeff Windham, one of the men who assisted in arresting Steve Renfroe, has become insane. He came home from Enterprise crazy. He told his wife when he got home that they would all be killed by Renfroe’s party, and insisted that she should leave the house with him to escape the threat and danger. His wife told him there was no danger; that they would not be hurt. Windham would not be convinced, and taking a bed quilt with him left his home alone. His wife searched for him, but being unable to find him, informed her neighbors, who assisted in the search, but were equally unsuccessful. He went to his brother’s house, some ten or twelve miles distant, and told his brother that robbers had killed his family, and help was needed to prevent them from killing everybody. His brother told him he must be mistaken, but Jeff insisted that he was right. His brother got up a crowd and went with Jeff to his house, and is was soon discovered that he was crazy. He is now chained to a post at his father’s.
