The public exercises of the Young Mens’ Christian Association were conducted by Judge Tally at the Cumberland Presbyterian church last Friday evening. He made an appropriate talk, after which a collection was taken up for the benefit of the library. About thirty seven volumes were subscribed. Mrs. Fannie King donated six handsome volumes. We are glad to see out people taking such an interest in this Association. It is an enterprise that deserves encouragement.—Scottsboro Citizen.
Scottsboro has within her borders an embryo celebrity. If we mistake not a fair test would settle the fact that Charley Brown Payne, five years old son of Dr. W. H. Payne is all of a musical wonder. With a simple little French harp he would amuse and entertain a Boston audience with his skill and rapidity with which he goes from tune to tune, seeming to have an inexhaustible store of music at his command. It is said that like other musical wonders he can catch the tune and play any piece he ever hears.—Scottsboro Herald.
