Birmingham’s New Postmaster
Mr. S. S. Thompson just appointed Postmaster of Birmingham, represents the young, liven business-like Democracy of the Magic City. He is a thorough-going Democrat, in every sense. The Age gives this sketch of him:
He has been a citizen of Birmingham twelve years, connected with the Louisville & Nashville railroad, Williamson’s foundry, and the Linn Iron Company. He is a fine machinist, and has been foreman of the Linn Iron Company for the past three years. He has a fine military record. He was a charter member of the Birmingham Rifles and was afterwards elected to the captaincy, being the youngest captain of the State troops. He was appointed a colonel on the governor’s staff, and resigned the captaincy of the Rifles. He was re-elected captain of that company. As a member of the young Democracy he has figured prominently, and has been identified with the Jefferson county Democratic club since its organization.
